Pastor

We are a small, family oriented church located at 3803 Regency Parkway, Ascension Baptist Church of Suitland, MD. We believe that you enter to Worship and Depart to serve.

Pastor has been pastoring for over forty (40) years. Before he was called to Pastor Ascension Baptist Church, he served five years as Pastor of Freedomway Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. He resides in Seat Pleasant, Maryland.

Pastor is a native of Saluda County, South Carolina. He graduated with honors from Ridge Hill High School in 1959 and attended South Carolina State College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Education (with a minor in related sciences) in 1963. He taught Vocational Agriculture for five months and was employed by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration, where he worked for 31 years until his retirement in 1994.

Pastor accepted his calling to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 1974, was licensed in 1975 and ordained in 1978 by his late Pastor, Rev. Dr. John W. Johnson and the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, Maryland.

Pastor is a proud 1980 graduate of the Washington Baptist Seminary and a recent graduate of the United Baptist College and Seminary of Baltimore, Maryland, where he received a Master’s Degree in Ministry. For several years, he worked as the Secretary of the Washington Baptist Seminary and later returned (for five years) to teach Biblical Interpretations to the Junior and Senior classes. In addition, for several years, he served as a substitute teacher in the public schools of Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Do I need to be a member to attend services?
No, everyone is welcome to attend our services regardless of membership. We invite all to join us in worship and fellowship.
Our Sunday services begin at 10:00 AM, with Bible study and prayer meetings held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM.

There is no formal dress code. We encourage you to dress comfortably and respectfully as you feel.

We welcome volunteers in many areas including outreach, children’s ministry, music, and community service. Please contact our church office or visit us after service to learn more.

Yes! We have dedicated Sunday school classes and youth group activities designed to nurture faith and community among our younger members.
